History: Buffalo Trace Distillery has a long history dating back to 1773 when it was
originally established by Hancock Lee, a pioneering figure in Kentucky’s early distilling
industry. It is one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the United States.
Over the years, the distillery changed ownership several times and faced challenges
such as Prohibition, but it managed to survive and thrive.
Products: Buffalo Trace Distillery is primarily known for its bourbon whiskey production.
They produce a variety of bourbons under their flagship Buffalo Trace brand, including
the award-winning Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Eagle Rare,
Blanton’s, and Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve. They also produce other spirits
such as rye whiskey, vodka, and bourbon cream liqueur.
Tours and Visitor Center: The distillery offers tours for visitors to explore its facilities and

the Bourbon Trail though tickets are limited.

distillery itself is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and some of its
buildings date back to the 1800s. The Warehouse C, constructed in 1881, is the world’s
oldest continuously aging warehouse for aging whiskey. The Distillery also includes the
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Warehouse and Bottling Facility, which honors a prominent
figure in bourbon history.
